In 2017, nearly 11 million people were imprisoned around the world. Although civil society is gradually becoming aware of the inhumanity of incarceration conditions and the futility of the current prison system, it has not yet succeeded in profoundly questioning its foundations. This is the context in which Prison Insider took its first steps, determined to inform as many people as possible of the state of the world’s prisons, of the people locked up in them and of their loved ones.
