Georgia : Public Defender presents annual report of National Preventive Mechanism

The Public Defender of Georgia presented an annual report of the National Preventive Mechanism to the Government, non-governmental and international organizations, and foreign diplomatic corps. The event was held in connection with the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, celebrated worldwide on June 26.

According to the Public Defender’s Office, the report highlights the human rights situation in closed institutions, namely in prison, bodies under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and boarding houses for people with disabilities, as well as protection of human rights during the joint return operation of Georgian citizens illegally living in the EU countries.
